Raised in Naperville, the Belgio family has strong ties to the community and a deep philanthropic commitment to the Naperville community. Strong community involvement has always been and will always be a core value of Belgio’s Catering. Since inception, Tim and Tom have actively sought out opportunities to aid those in need in the community. What makes Belgio’s Catering stand out from other local area businesses is that Tim and Tom don’t just donate their product, they also donate their time. Even when the product is being donated, one will often see one or both of the brothers at the event to make sure that everything runs smoothly for the event chair. Tim and Tom have spent many early mornings passing out donated food to local area 5K runners and can always been seen making sure operations are running well at annual festivals. Not only do they run their own operations, but since they are on sight, they can often be seen assisting others with set-up, break-down or transporting needed equipment via their vans. Whether it is helping Hesed House cook their turkeys on Thanksgiving Day, or providing their truck and assisting the YMCA staff in moving furniture for the annual Mayor’s breakfast, Belgio’s Catering can always be counted on to help the community. Some notable events are:Andy’s Angels

Often, donations are to a larger organization and Belgio’s Catering is not always able to see the direct impact of their donation. Recently, Tim and Tom were able to see first hand the changes that simple food donations can make. On October 29, 2006, a Naperville resident, Andy Chevalier, was critically injured while riding his motocross bike. Tim and Tom became aware of the accident in the Naperville Sun and contacted Andy’s friends (known as “Andy’s Angels”) to see how they could help. They offered to help sponsor a series of fundraisers to help the Chevalier family in this critical time of need. In January, Belgio’s Catering donated 100% of the food, facility and staff to host a fund-raiser dinner attended by over 360 guests. In February, Belgio’s Catering hosted a second event charging Andy’s Angels wholesale food cost only that was attended by over 450 guests. Over $35,000 was raised at both events with a third event scheduled for June 4, 2007.

Naperville North Special Education

Driven by Teri Belgio’s prior experience as a special education teacher’s assistant, Belgio’s Catering became involved with Naperville North’s special education program in 2001. Every year since 2001, Tim and Tom invite 25 special needs students over to the Belgio’s Catering kitchen to watch and learn how to prepare and cook food from the executive chef. In addition, the students tour the facility and learn about the catering business. Later in the month, the students host an annual holiday party in which Tim Belgio and the chef attend (along with parents, friends, community leaders and teachers) to help celebrate the many successes of the students. Belgio’s Catering donates over $3,300 in holiday catering for all 650 participants.

Naperville Judd Kendell VFW Post 3873

The Belgio brothers’ love of Naperville traditions led them to partner with the local VFW to run a community fish fry. Keeping the 38-year tradition alive, Belgio’s Catering prepares a buffet for over 350 local area residents every Friday during the Lenten season. The partnership with the VFW has existed since 2001 and with this partnership, Belgio’s Catering splits all proceeds 50/50 with the VFW Post. Belgio’s Catering enjoys the partnership because it often enables the family to mingle with past teachers and coaches and allows them to talk traditions with local area residents.

Naperville Ribfest

As all Naperville residents do, Tim and Tom have a great love for Naperville’s Ribfest. As a major sponsor of the event, Belgio’s Catering donates meals to volunteer and staff members over the 4/5 day event. In addition, they donate meal sides, dessert, equipment and staff to the high profile skyboxes. Annual level of sponsorship is approximately $15,000.

Through the years, Belgio’s Catering has been a very strong supporter of the YMCA. Specifically, Belgio’s Catering supports the Heritage YMCA through their Strong Kids Campaign program. This program is in place to make sure all kids have a chance to participate in YMCA programs, regardless of their ability to pay. Belgio’s Catering maintains an annual sponsorship level of $15,000 and maintains that sponsorship level through donations of cash, food, beverages, equipment and staffing resources at the various fundraising events throughout the city.

Additional Involvement

As a small business, Belgio’s Catering has sought to build its name in the marketplace by focusing on a philanthropic marketing strategy. Since inception, they have worked to build name recognition by becoming ingrained in the community. Catering customers say they see Belgio’s Catering “everywhere” and that is generally because they try to be everywhere. Whether it is a local 5K run, a festival sponsor tent or a church fund raiser, Naperville residents will often see Belgio’s Catering staff passing out donated private label water or donated food. Belgio’s Catering is often the first caterer called when area residents are looking for support of a good cause and they are always happy to help. This strategy has helped Belgio’s Catering to grow their business in several ways. The private label water distributed at events has helped to build name recognition throughout the community. The different sponsorship dinners that are donated to various local organizations provide an opportunity for residents to sample their food prior to making a larger commitment. This marketing strategy has proven to be successful as they have reduced advertising costs while providing a valuable service to the community

In addition to the organizations above, Belgio’s Catering is also involved with over 60 local organizations. Involvement often includes full or partial food donations, cash donations, staff donations or equipment donations. Some notable Naperville organizations include: School District 203, North Central College, LynneJean Cleaning, Noon Lions Club, Naperville Humane Society, Edward Hospital Foundation and The Naperville Park District.

Belgio’s Catering is also currently affiliated with the following organizations:

Naperville Chamber of Commerce (2000 – Present)

Greater Aurora Chamber of Commerce (2004 – Present)

Lisle Chamber of Commerce (2007 – Present)

St Charles Chamber of Commerce (2011 – Present)

Through the years, Belgio’s Catering has been fortunate to form significant relationships with several local areas groups and has been rewarded for their dedication. Below are some of those awards and recognitions:
